In “100 Dolls” I explore the use of multiples units to create the whole piece. Here, I was reflecting on my great grandmother and her doll collection. Before moving to a nursing home, the walls of her small apartment were lined with dolls. Some were well used, others were still in boxes, and all were too precious for me to play with. Recently after choosing a simple rag doll to bring with her, she began to only interact and communicate using the doll as an intermediary. This led me to hand sew one hundred dolls out of old, white cotton sheets. Each was about six inches tall and very elemental. The piece oscillates between individuality and unity, object and surface.
