“Mound” explores many polarities: natural/artificial, one/many, parent/offspring, and balanced/unstable. Its organic dirt crust contrasts with the gleaming teal abyss within. The hundreds of smaller forms lining this crater are each hand carved, causing the focus to waver between their individuality and the collective texture they create. These pieces grow inside like miniature versions of their host. The leaning bulbous form teeters dangerously with the weight of its parasitic contents. Delicately balanced, “Mound” is frozen in the moment before it topples.
