The image of a colony of swallow nests inspired this piece. Stretching ten feet long, “Nests” consists of fourteen merged forms. Each nest opens up to a vivid interior lined with hot pink powdered pigment. The exterior’s graphite sheen contrasts with the velvety brightness inside. The surface is obsessively covered in thousands of small inscribed marks that follow the contour of each curve. These scratches patiently build a pattern one line at a time, paralleling the swallows who painstakingly construct their home piece by piece
