Perishables is a photo based project making use of the food in my refrigerator that had gone bad, waiting in the bottom drawer to either be thrown out on trash day or tossed in the compost. By limiting my materials to this drawer of perishables, I explored connections between food, landscape, and waste in ways that are both economical and absurd.
In some of the photographs the spoiled produce is transformed into familiar, foreign, or fantastical landscapes through simple shifts in scale, focus, and perspective. In others, the photos are a documentation of a labor intensive process, or an attentive dissection of the product/produce.
